 This Sunday July 20, 2008
Today is a day and age which says "I want it now" "Don't wait" "Don't pay" "Buy now and pay later". It is a society of instant everything, instant coffee, instant messaging, fast food, fast service, same day delivery, and on and on. People say things like, "I live for today and for the moment", "I don't think about tomorrow or next year". Unfortunately this is the same view shared by many who claim to be a child of God. But this is not characteristic of God or of His desire for us as His children. God tells us in Colossians 3:1,2 that we are to have an eternal view, not a short sighted view that only sees today or this week. He says there "If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth." If then you were raised with Christ, if you have life in Christ. Only those who realize that they are a sinner who stands guilty before a holy God of having broken His law, and have cried out for God to have mercy on them and to forgive them of their sins and to save them from their sins. Only these are raised with Christ or are truly a child of God. God says there is only one way to become a child of God and that is by repenting of your sin and receiving Christ's offer of salvation. He died in our place to pay the price for our sins. And these verses speak to those who are truly a child of God, who have life in Christ and we are told to have an eternal view, to set our minds on things above, not on things on the earth. But sadly we get tangled up in the affairs of this life and the things of this world and we forget about eternity. But that is a colossal mistake. No we are to seek those things which are above, we are to set our minds on them we are to lay up for ourselves treasure in heaven, not here on earth. So the question is asked, how is your eternal view, are you living for the moment or are you living for God and things of eternal value?
